The Happy Meal is a specially packaged kids’ meal created by McDonald’s, introduced in 1979 in the United States. It was designed to appeal to children by combining a main item—like a hamburger, cheeseburger, or nuggets—with a side (usually fries or apples) and a drink, all packaged in a colorful box featuring playful designs. A key feature that set the Happy Meal apart was the inclusion of a small toy, often themed around popular movies, TV shows, or original characters, making it both a meal and a collectible experience. The idea originated from McDonald’s marketing team, who noticed that children influenced family dining choices, and wanted a way to make eating at McDonald’s fun and memorable for kids. Over the years, the Happy Meal has become a global phenomenon, adapting its toys and menus to local cultures while maintaining its iconic appeal.
