Funko Forum

Published November 10, 2019, 6:00 AM Compiled by ANGELA CASCO, ROC VERDERA, VIANCA GAMBOA, and JULES VIVAS

It was not my intention to start collecting FunkoPops. My best friend was the one who influenced me. I bought my first Funko Pop (SpiderMan with Upgraded Suit #470). It didn’t feel right to just have one, and the rest was history. I am now collecting because it is satisfying to see your favorite characters and personalities become part of what I can call a “family” and see this family grow. Plus, they’re also nice to look at when they start to look like one big wall. —Argyll Geducos, news reporter

The very first Funko Pop I ever bought was a Jon Snow vinyl figure that was meant as I am an avid fan of the TV series Game of Thrones. Not long after I first bought Jon Snow Funko, I slowly began picking up Funko for myself after I began seeing characters from genre franchises I loved and even from the anime series like My Hero Academia and One Piece. There was no real reason that dictated which Pops I collected beyond my simply liking a particular character. But in time, something about the beady-eyed vinyl figures began to amuse me. I don’t really think of myself as much as a hoarder, though. At the end of the day, Funkos are symbols to represent the emotional relationship that I have to all the characters and stories I love. Everyone is a fan of something—Funko! —John Dexter Geran, graphic artist

I currently have 25,000 unique pieces of fast food toys. I got into collecting FunkoPops when they started producing Funko Pop versions of famous fast food icons. My first acquisition was the Jollibee Funko Pop, which was given to me by Collectors Hive when they invited me to give a speech and receive an award at the 2018 History Con. Then it was followed by friends who sold me Funk Pop Col. Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, one original and the other a rare variant. I also got the famous mascot of Big Boy Fast Food Restaurant from the US. When Jollibee in a Philippine barong was released, I went a tad out of control because I bought four of those. I am so looking forward to Nov. 11 because Jollibee will be releasing a Twin Funko Pop of Jollibee and Twirlie. I am so excited! I guess because I was bitten by the Funk Pop bug so hard that now I ended up buying Funks of other characters that aren’t necessarily fast food related. Today, I have the set of Golden Girls Funko Pop (Blanch, Sophia, Rose, and Dorothy), Toy Story Funko Pop, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Marvel, DC, and other pop culture Funkos like Captain Crunch. I have preordered Funkos of Tony Tiger, Coke Bear, and the Noid from Dominos Pizza, which will be delivered by December.

I love collecting Funko Pop toys because they are a little bit strange looking but in a good and cute way. They are great conversation pieces. At home, my wall of Funko Pop toys is almost full, which creates a unique and interesting display for my house of toys. I love Funko Pop so much that I hope one day my own comic strip character, Amazing Grace, which comes out every Sunday in The Manila Bulletin, would have her own Funko Pop version. I am keeping my fingers crossed. —Percival Lugue, current Guinness World Record holder for largest collection of fast food toys

I started my Funko Pop collection in June 2019 during a ToyCon. But technically I already have in my toy collection a few Funko Pop, like the Avengers and Black Panther. A few friends encouraged me to start collecting Funko Pop. I was hesitant at first, with all the lines they got from movies to TV series and all others. But then on that very ToyCon, I finally decided to start collecting… My line would be horror, suspense and villains. My first four on this line included the shark from Jaws, Pennywise, Chucky, and Gizmo from the ’80s movie Gremlins. Since then I’ve become so active in hunting items I want. Greenhills has become my favorite tambayan and I also joined Facebook groups where people post about their Funko Pop collections. Since I love sports, I also included it in my collection, as well as some of my favorite cartoon characters like those from Looney Tunes, Shrek and Donkey, Tom and Jerry.

I think in any collection or hobby, you find joy every time you see something that interests you. You feel so happy. It’s a stress reliever that when you get home, you just look at your collection and admire them. The best thing so far about collecting Funko Pop now is that my daughter also got her own: Scarlet Witch from the Avengers and later Eleven from Stranger Things. Funko Pop has become a part of our bonding moment as father and daughter… and that for me is priceless.—Waylon Panlilio Galvez, sports writer

At first, I just found it cute how my favorite characters, especially horror characters, were converted into vinyl figures. I didn’t expect that my collection will get this huge. Seeing my Funko wall in my apartment makes me feel like a kid again. I consider it as an achievement every time I complete a Funko line, especially when you spend months or sometimes years to complete a set. It’s my stress reliever. And, believe it or not, it helps me with my anxiety sometimes. —Christian Carl Quides, video editor

Originally, Starfire was capable of using this power to fly in space and even go fast enough to cross several solar systems in minutes to seconds. However, it is established in Red Hood and the Outlaws #2 and #27 that the rebooted Starfire is unable to fly without the effects of gravity, leaving her unable to travel in space unaided. This energy also gives her incredible superhuman strength and durability. This strength, combined with her fighting skills, allowed her to defeat the much stronger Donna Troy about two out of three times during purely hand to hand matches. She later proved strong enough to fight against Wonder Woman for a short period of time and, during a fit of rage, was so strong that Donna Troy was unable to restrain her without the help of Mon-El and in the TV series she was strong enough to shake the whole city with a single hit. After being experimented on by the alien Psions, Starfire gained the ability to release her absorbed energy into incredibly powerful blasts called "starbolts."

Did you know?

As a Cambion, Raven has an array of abilities; she is firstly an empath, able to sense and alter the emotions of others. She can induce calm, suppress negativity, and even make someone fall in love with her. By absorbing the pain of the wounded into herself, she can induce rapid healing for the affected person. Raven can astral project a solid black energy form that takes the shape of a bird, called her soul-self. Her soul-self can travel long distances, become intangible, and is able to telepathically communicate. It can act as a shield as it can absorb a limited amount of energy and solid matter, regurgitating them before reintegrating with Raven. Using her soul-self, she can convert her physical body into her soul-self and carry or teleport herself and others over a limited distance. Her soul-self can mentally subdue at least one person by enveloping them inside of itself. Raven's soul-self could initially stay outside her body for exactly five minutes; failure to reintegrate in time would cause mental torment for her, though she eventually overcame this limitation.  In her third body, Raven acquired the ability to fly. Raven is shown to be able to fly unaided in space.

Daffy Duck is an animated cartoon character produced by Warner Bros. Styled as an anthropomorphic black duck, the character has appeared in cartoon series such as Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, in which he usually has been depicted as a foil for Bugs Bunny. Daffy was one of the first of the new "screwball" characters that emerged in the late 1930s to replace traditional everyman characters who were more popular earlier in the decade,[citation needed] such as Mickey Mouse and Popeye. Daffy starred in 130 shorts in the golden age, making him the third-most frequent character in the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons, behind Bugs Bunny's 167 appearances and Porky Pig's 162 appearances. Virtually every Warner Bros. cartoon director put his own spin on the Daffy Duck character – he may be a lunatic vigilante in one short but a greedy glory hound in another. Both Bob Clampett and Chuck Jones made extensive use of these two very different variants of Daffy's character. Daffy was number 14 on TV Guide's list of top 50 greatest cartoon characters.

Percy's Fast Food Toy No. 758 - Joker (I Started A Joke)

Did you know?

Arthur Fleck / Joker is a mentally ill, impoverished stand-up comedian disregarded by society, whose history of abuse causes him to become a nihilistic criminal.[9] Phoenix had been interested in a low-budget "character study" of a comic book character, and said the film "feels unique, it is its own world in some ways, and maybe ... It might as well be the thing that scares you the most." Phoenix lost 52 pounds (24 kg) in preparation, and based his laugh on "videos of people suffering from pathological laughter." He also sought to portray a character who audiences could not identify with and did not look to previous Joker actors for inspiration; instead, he read a book about political assassinations so he could understand killers and motivations. Director Todd Phillips said that he intentionally left it ambiguous as to whether Arthur becomes the actual Joker as seen in traditional Batman stories or inspires a separate character.

In many episodes, Fluttershy exhibits an authoritative personality that emerges whenever a friend or animal is harmed, in contrast to her normally fearful and submissive self. Her most prominent ability, "the Stare", causes any creature that meets her gaze to become "powerless and moved to meekness" while it's in effect. Faust enjoyed writing for Fluttershy the most out of the show's characters due to her "relatable" struggles with fear, which Faust says brings potential "not just for great storytelling but also for great filmmaking".

Amazing Grace is a Charlie Brown toy from McDonald's!!!! Yehey!!!

Did you know?

Charlie Brown (also nicknamed Chuck by Peppermint Patty) is the lead role of the comic strip Peanuts, syndicated in daily and Sunday newspapers in numerous countries all over the world. Depicted as a "lovable loser," Charlie Brown is one of the great American archetypes and a popular and widely recognized cartoon character. Charlie Brown is characterized as a person who frequently suffers, and as a result, is usually nervous and lacks self-confidence. He shows both pessimistic and optimistic attitudes: on some days, he is reluctant to go out because his day might just be spoiled, but on others, he hopes for the best and tries as much as he can to accomplish things. He is easily recognized by his trademark zigzag patterned shirt. There is only one exception: whenever he's a costumed character, he wears a red baseball cap on top of his head most of the time, rather than just wearing a white one during baseball seasons in comic strips and animation.
