Asgardian was the original superhero codename of Billy Kaplan, later known as Wiccan, when he debuted in Young Avengers #1 (2005). Initially presenting powers reminiscent of Thor—such as energy blasts and limited lightning manipulation—Asgardian’s abilities were later revealed to stem from innate reality-warping and spellcasting rather than any Asgardian heritage. The name was chosen to conceal his true magical nature and to fit the team’s theme of echoing classic Avengers, but it proved misleading once Billy’s immense mystical potential became apparent. As he grew more confident and his abilities evolved, Billy adopted the name Wiccan, better reflecting his identity and marking a significant turning point in his character development within the Young Avengers narrative.
