The Mooseltoe by Margie Palatini, illustrated by Henry Cole and published by Scholastic Inc. in 2000, is a humorous holiday picture book that playfully reimagines Christmas traditions through the eyes of animals. The story centers on a lovestruck moose who believes that hanging “mooseltoe” will help him win the affection of a shy female moose, leading to a series of comical misunderstandings and antics as other forest animals get involved. Palatini’s lively, rhyming text pairs perfectly with Henry Cole’s expressive and whimsical illustrations, creating a festive read filled with slapstick humor and visual jokes. Beneath the silliness, the book gently conveys themes of patience, kindness, and the importance of being oneself, making it an entertaining and enduring holiday story for young readers.
