The Guard Armor is an iconic early boss from Kingdom Hearts (2002), the action RPG developed by Square and published by Disney Interactive for the PlayStation 2. First encountered in Traverse Town, Guard Armor is a towering, knight-like Heartless composed of separate floating body parts—helmet, torso, arms, and legs—that attack independently, showcasing the game’s inventive enemy design and real-time combat mechanics. As one of the earliest major boss battles, it serves as a skill check for players, teaching them to target moving parts, manage camera angles, and coordinate with party members Donald Duck and Goofy. Visually inspired by medieval armor with a dark, ominous twist, Guard Armor helped establish the distinctive fusion of Disney charm and Square’s dramatic fantasy style that defined Kingdom Hearts and contributed to its lasting position.
