Winter Sonata Samhwa Entertainment Co. Ltd. KBS Media (2005)

Winter Sonata is a landmark South Korean television drama that first aired on KBS2 in 2002 and became one of the most influential works in the Hallyu (Korean Wave) phenomenon across Asia, especially in Japan and the Philippines, thanks to its romantic melodrama about first love and memory. While the original series was produced by Pan Entertainment and broadcast by KBS, later international releases and home media editions were handled by distribution partners including KBS Media Ltd., a subsidiary of the Korean Broadcasting System responsible for exporting and marketing Korean content overseas, often on DVD and other formats. In the mid‑2000s, companies like Samhwa Entertainment Co. Ltd. in Japan were involved in licensing and distributing Korean drama DVDs such as Winter Sonata to Japanese audiences around 2005, helping to fuel its cult status and strong sales in physical media during the early years of Hallyu’s spread beyond Korea.
