The Miffy Asahi Bank promotional item from 1981 is a charming example of early character merchandising tied to financial institutions, featuring the beloved rabbit Miffy created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna and managed by Mercis B.V.. Produced as part of a collaboration with Asahi Bank (now part of Resona Bank), this collectible typically took the form of a small figurine, coin bank, or novelty item designed to appeal to families and encourage savings habits among children. Its minimalist design—true to Bruna’s signature style with bold outlines and simple colors—made it instantly recognizable, while also reflecting Japan’s growing enthusiasm for cute (“kawaii”) character goods during the early 1980s. Today, items from this collaboration are appreciated by collectors for their nostalgic value and as early examples of global character branding crossing into everyday services like banking.
On November 4, 2014, Percy's Fast Food Restaurant Toys Collection was declared the Largest by the Guinness World Records at 10,000 unique pieces from McDonald's, Jollibee, Burger King, KFC, Wendy's, Chick-Fil-A, Carl's Jr., Hardee's and other Fast Food Restaurants. This blog highlights and celebrates each individual toy's story included in the collection as all of them are now Officially Amazing!!! I will also feature my Comic Strip, Amazing Grace who I hope will be a Fast Food Toy too someday.
