C2 Coca Cola - Japan (Coke 2021)

Coca-Cola C2 was a mid-calorie cola beverage introduced by The Coca-Cola Company in Japan on June 7, 2004, as a response to the low-carbohydrate diet trend. Marketed as having half the carbohydrates, sugars, and calories of regular Coca-Cola, C2 was sweetened with a blend of high-fructose corn syrup, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, and sucralose. The product aimed to offer a taste closer to traditional Coca-Cola while appealing to health-conscious consumers. Despite initial enthusiasm and promotional efforts, including a campaign featuring Japanese footballer Hidetoshi Nakata, C2 faced challenges in the market. Sales did not meet expectations, leading to its discontinuation in Japan in 2006, mirroring its fate in the United States and Canada. The introduction of Coca-Cola Zero, a zero-calorie alternative, further overshadowed mid-calorie options like C2. While C2 is no longer available, its brief presence reflects Coca-Cola's efforts to adapt to changing consumer preferences and dietary trends.
