The concept of time travel has ancient origins, appearing in various myths and fictions throughout history. One of the earliest examples is found in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, dating back to around 400 BCE, which features a story about a king and his daughter traveling to Brahma's plane of existence where time moves differently. Other early mentions include stories like Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving and "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain. The first widespread discussion of theoretical time travel is credited to H.G. Wells in his novel "The Time Machine" (1895).
