The walkie-talkie was invented during World War II by Canadian inventor Donald Hings in 1937, originally called the "packset." The U.S. military adopted walkie-talkies during WWII to improve battlefield communication. The term “walkie-talkie” was popularized by Motorola, who developed portable two-way radios in the 1940s.
